Manchester United welcome Sheffield United to Old Trafford on Wednesday night, here is our predicted line-up for the Premier League game.
Erik ten Hag will have to do very well to get his players back up and motivated for this Wednesday’s game against Sheffield United.
This is because the Manchester United players looked completely fed up after winning that FA Cup semi-final on penalties.
Now ahead of this Premier League game, the injury situation at Old Trafford is absolutely ridiculous, as seen below;
Injury type | Projected return | |
Raphael Varane | Muscular injury | Late May |
Mason Mount | Unknown | Unknown |
Victor Lindelof | Hamstring injury | Late May |
Luke Shaw | Thigh injury | Late May |
Harry Maguire | Muscle injury | Late May |
Anthony Martial | Groin injury | Late May |
Tyrell Malacia | Knee injury | Unknown |
With a list this long, any line-up will be significantly weakened and Ten Hag will have to be at his best in order to see three points this week.
Predicting Manchester United’s line-up vs Sheffield United
Ten Hag will be desperate to stumble upon a winning formula, however, injuries mean he’ll be far from full strength.
Here’s how we see United lining up…
Andre Onana
One position which has been rock solid and consistent all season is in goal, with Andre Onana missing one game.
His recent form means there’s no reason he’ll be dropped now or anytime soon so definitely starts here.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
There have been some sketchy moments on the left side of defence for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, so he should move back to the right.
Casemiro
He was solid for most of the game against Coventry and continued injuries mean there’s no other choice than to start Casemiro.
Harry Maguire
Probably the most important player on the field as the only fit centre-back. Harry Maguire will be tasked with keeping his former side at bay to prevent what would be an embarrassing loss.
Diogo Dalot
Moved from right to left, should be Diogo Dalot as he’s far better on the left than Wan-Bissaka. Playing on the left also makes it easier for him to invert into midfield on his right foot.
Kobbie Mainoo
Kobbie Mainoo is a definite starter as he’s undroppable at this stage – not that Ten Hag could drop him with so many injuries currently.
Mainoo hasn’t been at his best lately, but he cannot be blamed considering the state Ten Hag has the club in right now.
Bruno Fernandes
Bruno Fernandes for us, is the best choice to partner Mainoo here considering injuries to McTominay and Mount mean options are scarce.
He would benefit from a move deeper considering he seems to always be exhausted so getting him further back should mean he isn’t in as taxing a role as we should dominate here, so he’d also be great to get on the ball more.
Antony
After his celebration controversy on Sunday, Antony will likely start here with Rashford ruled out by Ten Hag.
Amad Diallo
In the number 10 position, some fresh legs could be a godsend and Amad Diallo deserves a start given he’s been excellent in his cameos.
Ten Hag has mentioned in the pre-match press conference that Amad did well in midfield vs Coventry, so could do this again in this game.
Alejandro Garnacho
Despite being absolutely shattered and in poor form, Alejandro Garnacho starts here, back on his favoured left side as he looks to regain form.
There isn’t an abundance of options this week, so he’s needed to play even though he does need a rest.
Rasmus Hojlund
Up top, it’s Rasmus Hojlund who now hasn’t scored in six games since his return.
That being said, he’s just scored the winning penalty in an FA Cup semi-final, so confidence should be high.
