Paul Scholes has taken to Instagram after Manchester United won the FA Cup on Saturday evening with a message for the surprise hero.
It’s a silverware-coloured end to the 2023-24 season for Manchester United and every single player can be proud of their contribution in the game.
Of course, it’ll be Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo who steal all the headlines and rightfully so with their record-making goals being the winning moments for the trophy.
However, there were several who deserved their flowers after what was the performance of the season for many, at the best possible time.
There was one shock standout performer though, and now he’s been lauded by Paul Scholes.
Paul Scholes gives Sofyan Amrabat his flowers
After the win which gave United a 13th FA Cup trophy, Scholes jumped on Instagram with a message to Sofyan Amrabat after the Moroccan put in a stellar performance.
Scholes posted on his story, quoting Amrabat’s post which had a picture of the defensive midfielder lifting the trophy and adding his own caption.
He wrote: “Like a prime [Gennaro] Gattuso today”, followed by three clapping emojis which showcase just how impressed the club legend was by Amrabat.
Gattuso of course as a player was known for his defensive work and against City, Amrabat was an immovable object, making the decision not to play him all season look crazy.
The past few games, barring Brighton, have been so impressive for Amrabat and it’s almost a shame his loan is now over.
Should Manchester United sign Amrabat permanently?
This question was a non-debate a month ago, with Amrabat barely a feature in Erik ten Hag‘s team, but now it’s hard to imagine it functioning without him.
However, this could potentially be the final game Amrabat plays for United as his loan move is set to expire and he’ll return to Fiorentina without the buy option being triggered.
After a strong end to the season and a standout display in the final could this change, or rather should it change?
It’s a tough one to decide upon, but given he’d be fairly cheap at £21m and the fact United will already have to replace Christian Eriksen and Casemiro, keeping Amrabat could be a smart move.
He’s certainly earned it.
