On the day that Manchester City won the Premier League title, at least one age group in the Manchester United ranks managed to bring home some silverware.
Manchester United’s first-team squad did prevail at least on the final day of the Premier League season. They beat Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex to at least round off the 23/24 campaign with a victory.
Although, it didn’t do any favours for their league position. Erik ten Hag’s side still could only finish a lowly 8th, which meant European football is no longer a prospect unless Manchester United were able to defeat Manchester City in the FA Cup Final 2024.
Speaking of finals, Manchester United’s U14 academy side played one on Sunday, where there were some familiar names knocking around the squad.
Manchester United U14s win the Albert Phelan Cup
The U14s became Albert Phelan National Champions after beating Millwall in the final on Sunday afternoon, with the young Red Devils winning 2-0.
A familiar name was among the goalscorers. Kai Rooney, son of Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney, got one and Edson DeJonge-Seiros got the other.
Not only was Rooney’s son involved, Michael Carrick’s lad, Jacey, was also among the victors, with the former midfielder pictured as a proud dad with the cup on the day.
The moment they lifted the trophy was captured by academyarenaUTD below. Let’s hope their successes can be replicated as the first team heads to Wembley next Saturday.
Kai Rooney scores wondergoal
After showing off some silky skills in training, Kai Rooney has also proven he can be a big game player in cup finals – just like his dad.
His goal was also caught on camera, which was a sublime half-volleyed chip that looped the Millwall goalkeeper and nestled into the net.
He was always destined to be a goalscorer with the name Rooney on his back, but did his dad expect him to be this prolific? He broke Manchester United’s record for goals scored in a single season at under-12 level, with a whopping 56.
Now he’s winning trophies and scoring crucial final goals. Dare we say we have a Wazza 2.0 in the making? It’s early days, but mega promising.
