Manchester United’s game plans do not always go as the manager intends, with an extensive list of hot-headed players in the past.

Eric Cantona, Roy Keane and Nemanja Vidic. Three undeniable Manchester United legends, however, all did have a tendency to often lose their cool.

Then there are also ridiculous refereeing decisions which play a factor too, see Nani against Real Madrid in 2013 which left Old Trafford in complete shock.

Below is a list of Manchester United’s first-team squads‘ most red-carded players of all time. There are plenty of names from the Sir Alex Ferguson era on the list.

Manchester United records: Most red cards

  1. Roy Keane

    11

  2. Paul Scholes

    9

  3. Nemanja Vidic

    8

  4. Nicky Butt, Mark Hughes

    5 each

  5. Eric Cantona, Cristiano Ronaldo, Darren Fletcher, Pat Crerand, Gary Neville

    4 each

  6. Casemiro, Eric Bailly, Rafael da Silva, Marouane Fellaini, Nani, Denis Law, Wayne Rooney

    3 each

It actually seems bizarre to consider that Eric Cantona and Cristiano Ronaldo received the same number of red cards in their United careers.

The difference was Cantona received his four in 185 games, and Ronaldo took 346 to accumulate that figure. Had Cantona not received an eight-match ban for a kung-fu kick to fan, he may have had time to accumulate more.

Casemiro is the only current United player on the list, racking up three red cards during just two seasons.

Roy Keane’s tally of 11 United red cards is a record which may never be beaten.
