It is not even August and Manchester United have already signed two players, both highly coveted and triumphed over rivals in doing so.
While AC Milan were beaten for Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro was an even bigger coup as Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool were blown out of the water by United’s ambition.
Fans had barely gotten over the euphoria of signing Zirkzee when Yoro was announced. Now, when they were still celebrating getting their hands on the young defensive prodigy, another bomb dropped.
It was reported that United have agreed personal terms with Manuel Ugarte with only club-to-club talks remaining before that is also done.
It set the social media ablaze, with all Man United fans saying the same thing…
Man United fans react to Manuel Ugarte news
Just 95 minutes after officially announcing that Leny Yoro is a Manchester United, fans were still getting over exciting quotes from Dan Ashworth and the player himself.
That is when news dropped about Manuel Ugarte, which convinced many that United might not have one, two, but three signings on the plane to the USA for their pre-season.
They reacted with astonishment and every United fan thought there was only one reason why this is all happening.
One said, “Sir Jim and Ineos you’ve changed my life!”, while another wrote, “I don’t recognise my club anymore”, referencing back to the days under Glazers where the whole window was often spent chasing one player only to overpay for him.
The pace at which United are conducting their business left some dazed in the best possible way as one wrote, “I’ve not finished celebrating Yoro deal can we slow down for once”, and another agreed, “I better not wake up soon and see this was all a dream!”. A third echoed similar sentiments, “I can’t believe what’s going on, we are moving.”
The speed and quality of United’s deals have turned the fans’ pessimism into blanket optimism. Some have fully bought into the hype. One said, “We’re actually winning the league next season”, while another announced- “We are so back!”.
Positions getting ticked
The club has gone about this window with such spectacular planning that with only three signings and other well-thought-out departures, the squad already looks much better.
The bloat is being cut, the fringe is being sold, and bridges have been mended to give the team a booster shot with only one pre-season game played so far.
The need for a center-back was an open secret, and two might arrive. The striker market was difficult, so a release clause was quickly taken advantage of.
A Casemiro replacement was needed, so a distressed asset in Ugarte was identified and multiple deals were being worked on at the same time.
It is clear that the plan was to set the basic framework in place for pre-season, then do the rest of the business based on sales, a quality idea as putting the basics in place beforehand saves the club from getting rinsed in the market.
It remains to be seen how much overhaul United end the window with but it is already blowing past fans’ expectations.
