Manchester United duo Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo were on the wrong end of an England defeat in the Euro 2024 final.
England suffered a 2-1 loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final, with Mikel Oyarazabal scoring a late winning goal.
It meant Manchester United stars Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo missed out on winners medals and had to settle as runners-up.
Shaw recovered from injury to play all 90 minutes in the final, while Mainoo played every single knockout round and played more than an hour.
Kobbie Mainoo heartbroken
After witnessing the joy of seeing Kobbie Mainoo win the FA Cup, it was heartbreaking to see the teenager looking disconsolate at full-time.
Mainoo reflected alone at the final whistle, leaning against the goalpost to prop him up.
Upon collecting his runners-up medal, Mainoo did not wear it, and carried it away in his hands.
Manchester United message
Manchester United had a message for Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw after the defeat.
The club posted on X: “We’re gutted for you lads — hold you’re heads up high, you’ve done your country and us proud.!
This was the right note to strike. Manchester United fans are especially proud of the way Kobbie Mainoo has played throughout the tournament.
At just 19 he has established himself as a regular starter for England and he was key to the Three Lions getting through the knockout phases, particularly strong in the semi-final.
Luke Shaw did himself proud with his performance too, with Manchester United fans noting how when fit, Shaw is among the best left-backs in the world.
