Cristiano Ronaldo has won big everywhere he has gone, England, Spain and Italy, you name it they have all been conquered.

The 36-year-old has also won the European Championships with his beloved Portugal – the only trophy that has proven elusive which he will go for again next winter is the World Cup.

Ronaldo’s burning desire and addiction to success drives him on craving more, he wants more trophies which will no doubt bring the wealth of personal accolades which he continues to rack up.

At the age of 36, Ronaldo wouldn’t have re-joined us if he didn’t believe in what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was building.

Solskjaer has assembled a side that is ready to challenge and lift aloft major trophies once again.

With the squad we now have, fighting on all four fronts is a real possibility and with the addition of serial winners Ronaldo and Raphael Varane in the dressing room, Solskjaer will be desperate to get his hands on that first trophy as Manchester United’s manager.

The squad now has a perfect blend of talent, youth and experience. Yes, a defensive midfielder would have rounded off a dream transfer window, but United have enough quality and firepower to blow teams away whilst staying resolute at the back.

It has been a long and tortuous road for United to get back to challenging for major trophies.

In the time that David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho have all come and gone at Old Trafford, Ronaldo took his Champions League winners medals tally to five.

But unlike when he signed for United for the first time under Sir Alex Ferguson, or Real Madrid and Juventus, Ronaldo is joining a club that hasn’t challenged for the Champions League or domestic title for nine years.

Instead of coming into a side that has had sustained success, Ronaldo is tasked with making us contenders once more.

Competing against Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City on the domestic and European front will be difficult, but the man has said himself he isn’t back for a vacation (BBC Sport), he wants to win again.

The Premier League is arguably the strongest it has been for a long time and alongside the three other English sides, Lionel Messi’s Paris Saint German and Robert Lewandowski’s Bayern Munich will be the teams to beat in the Champions League.

If Ronaldo carries United back to the top of the mountain during his second spell, he may well have achieved the biggest achievement of his career.
