Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen believes that Erik ten Hag made a “very solid signing” in the summer, despite paying a “decent chunk of money.”
Ten Hag continued his squad rebuild in the summer and welcomed the arrival of several key signings, including Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount.
United completed a £47.2m transfer for Onana from Inter Milan after Red Devils legend David de Gea left Old Trafford in the summer.
Mount arrived from Chelsea in a deal that could rise to £60m, while the signing of Hojlund from Atalanta could cost £72m through different add-ons.
The Red Devils’ other transfer business included loan deals for Sergio Reguilon and Sofyan Amrabat, as well as the signings of Jonny Evans and Altay Bayindir.

Owen raves about ‘top-class’ Mount
Ten Hag was keen to reinforce his midfield options in the summer and former Chelsea star Mount was a key target for the United manager.
Chelsea initially played hardball with any negotiations over the 24-year-old player and even rejected early offers that United made for Mount.
Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE, Owen praised Mount as a “top-class player” and believes that he could be at Old Trafford for a “long time.”
“Mason Mount is obviously a top-class player. I think he’s a very good signing,” he said.
“Obviously they paid the going rate. I think it is a decent chunk of money, but he is young, he is English, he is going to be there for a long time.
“He is obviously a very good player. I don’t think anyone can complain about that signing.
“I think it is a very solid signing. You know what you are going to get.”
More to come from Mount at United
Mount came under early criticism in his United career after his performances against Wolves and Tottenham at the beginning of the current Premier League season.
The England international then suffered an injury in the 2-0 defeat to Spurs in August, which led to him missing United’s next four Premier League matches.
Despite the mounting pressure on his shoulders (pun very much intended), Mount made his return to United last month and has started to settle in well at the club.
Mount impressed with his performance against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup and won over others with his display against Galatasaray in the Champions League.
While Mount was left out of the England squad for the October international break, the United star will no doubt be rested and ready for when club football is back.
