Ballon d’Or winner Michael Owen has insisted that he “can’t see any positives” at Manchester United after his former side’s humiliating 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

Dominic Solanke stunned Old Trafford in the fifth minute after firing Bournemouth into the lead, with United fighting hard in the first half to pull back an equaliser.

However, Philip Billing doubled the Cherries’ lead against United in the second half before Marcos Senesi added his side’s third five minutes later on Saturday.

The defeat to Bournemouth was a blow for Erik ten Hag, who will be without Bruno Fernandes for the Liverpool clash after the United captain picked up a suspension.

Ten Hag appeared to turn the tide back in his favour after United’s 2-1 win over Chelsea during the midweek, but the pressure on him has now returned.

United will now face Bayern Munich on Tuesday in the Champions League, with the Red Devils facing a mountainous task in remaining in the club competition.

Ten Hag will then take his men to Anfield on Sunday for a showdown with Liverpool and the United manager’s future at Old Trafford could be hanging in the balance.

Owen reacts to United’s defeat to Bournemouth

Owen, who recently opened up about his time at United, was unsurprisingly shocked by the result against Bournemouth and shared his two cents on social media.

Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, the ex-United and Liverpool striker insisted that things “need to change” and the team is “going nowhere” at the moment.

“I just can’t see any positives for [Man United] at present,” Owen tweeted to his 3.7m X followers.

“Knocked out of the cup, about to go out of The [sic] Champions League at the group stage, no chance of winning the league, average signings, shocking performances, manager falling out with players, no identity on the pitch, poor team selections…

“Things need to change as this team is going nowhere. Oh, and up next is Bayern Munich followed by a trip to Anfield.”

Ten Hag needs a United uplift ASAP

All eyes are back on Ten Hag after another disappointing result, with the 53-year-old United boss in a constant tug-of-war struggle at Old Trafford this season.

Fernandes broke his silence after the Bournemouth defeat and shared his thoughts on United’s display, but actions will always speak louder than any words ever could.

United fans were rightfully furious with what they saw against Bournemouth, with Ten Hag’s men scrambling to make an impact in the second half at home.

Ten Hag was questioned by fans over his decision to start Anthony Martial ahead of Rasmus Hojlund, with the French striker offering very little in his performance.

The ex-Ajax boss better hope that United can turn things around, as he faces no easy challenge with that especially when Bayern and Liverpool are waiting around the corner.
