Manchester United title winner Robin van Persie has retained his connection with the club a decade since his departure.
Signing Robin van Persie from Arsenal was a real coup for Manchester United back in 2012, and the Dutchman made an instant impact, winning the title in his first seaosn.
Last week Van Persie was back at Carrington to complete his coaching badges, where he ran into his former teammate Rio Ferdinand, who was also paying a visit to his former club.
“I had a little chat with him, bantered him about his gear,” Ferdinand told Five.
Rasmus Hojlund asked for time with Robin van Persie
Ferdinand explained how he ended up having a mini-reunion in the Manchester United canteen, with technical director Darren Fletcher there too.
He said current striker Rasmus Hojlund was ‘knocking about’, and made a beeline for them, or more specifically, Robin van Persie.
He explained: “Rasmus was there, came over to me and Fletch having a chat about things, what I loved is he saw Robin van Persie and said to Darren, #can I get five minutes with him, with Robin van Persie?’
“Robin says ‘yeah come man’. They went away and come back 10 to 15 minutes later.
“Robin says he’s asking a lot of questions, the sign of someone who wants to learn, a student. Its nice that humility and humbleness to show. It bodes well for the future of this club.”
Whatever Van Persie said to Hojlund, it did some good, with Hojlund scoring for his fifth Premier League game in a row in the weekend’s victory over Aston Villa.
Hojlund was compared to Van Persie
Hojlund has 11 goals in total for Manchester United this season, the first player for the club to hit double figures, although four more might follow.
He was actually compared to Van Persie before he kicked a ball for the club, with former Premier League player Robbie Earle likening the two last August.
He told NBC Sports: “It might be a couple of years before we see the best of him. [He’s got a] nice left foot, rolls people, uses his pace, can join in play off the central position.
“He can smash a ball with his left foot, he’s got a hammer, Van Persie-esque how he smashes it.”
Manchester United have seen that with a couple of the Dane’s goals already, and the best part is, there are a lot more to come.
