Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has named the dream player that he wished he could have played alongside at Old Trafford.
Kobbie Mainoo has played a starring role for Manchester United this season and enjoyed a remarkable campaign so far in the first team.
Erik ten Hag included the 18-year-old United star in the club’s pre-season tour last summer, only for Mainoo to miss the start of the season due to injury.
However, Mainoo received his chance after returning from injury and impressed on his first Premier League start for United in a 3-0 away win against Everton.
The England Under-19s international has made 14 appearances across all competitions and picked up two assists and scored once for United’s senior team.
Mainoo scored for the first time for United’s first team on Sunday in his side’s 4-2 victory over Newport County in the third round of the FA Cup.
The United midfielder, who came through the club’s youth academy, was praised by fans for his performance against the League Two side at the Rodney Parade.
Mainoo names United legend as dream player
Kobbie Mainoo was asked on Instagram by academyarena Utd about the dream player he wished he could have played alongside at Manchester United.
“Alright bro, for a new post, I’d love to know what former United player you wish you could’ve played with?” academyarena Utd asked.
Academyarena Utd on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, posted a screenshot of the exchange with Mainoo and how the United midfielder responded.
Mainoo simply replied to the message by naming club legend Cristiano Ronaldo as his pick.
Ronaldo left Old Trafford for the second time after his contract with the Premier League club was terminated with immediate effect in November 2022.
The 38-year-old Al Nassr star returned to United in 2021 after leaving Juventus, but a falling out with Erik ten Hag sealed his exit from the Red Devils.
Mainoo on ‘important’ part of United’s season
Mainoo welcomed United’s progression to the fifth round of the FA Cup and is keen for his side to mount a realistic challenge for the trophy.
The Red Devils fell short of the FA Cup trophy last season after crosstown rivals Manchester City secured a 2-1 win at Wembley in the final.
However, Mainoo stressed the importance of United focusing on each cup match carefully, with the ultimate aim for the club to lift the FA Cup trophy.
“It’s very important at this point of the season,” he told Manchester United’s official website.
“Every cup win is important, it’s the next step to the final goal, which is winning a trophy. So, it’s very important.”
