Manchester United have been told to expect an ‘incredible talent’ amid the arrival of wonderkid Leny Yoro.
Leny Yoro’s move to Manchester United has moved close to completion with the player undergoing a medical over the past 24 hours.
United’s move for Leny Yoro left Real Madrid looking towards alternatives, and sent a major message that new investors Ineos are serious about attracting the best players.
Yoro is regarded as one of the top young centre-backs in European football and was also regarded as a ‘prime target’ for rivals Liverpool.
Leny Yoro to Manchester United reaction
Leny Yoro’s move to Manchester United will cost £52 million including add-ons.
It is a fee which has could be perceived as high considering Yoro’s Lille contract runs out in 12 months time, yet a small price to pay long-term if the defender fulfils his potential.
This was acutely summarised by French football journalist Julien Laurens, via X.
He wrote: “I’m on holidays but the interesting thing on the Yoro deal is that Real Madrid didn’t want to pay more than 30m, PSG not more than 45m for an 18 year old free in a year but United paid 63m!
“Yoro is an incredible talent and only the future will tell which strategy was the right one.”
Another Ligue 1 expert believes Manchester United’s deal for Leny Yoro will be worth every single penny.
Matt Spiro writes: “Leny Yoro is ridiculously good for his age – already one of Ligue 1’s top defenders and will soon be among the best in the world.
“Not sure anyone who has watched his development would argue otherwise. Man United quite right to pay big money now to beat the competition.”
Yoro fee won’t matter if he succeeds
Forget the expiring contract, the deal for Leny Yoro is a perfectly reasonable one considering his talent.
If Yoro succeeds at Manchester United and becomes an elite player, the fee will end up looking cheap.
Yoro is a defender who has the potential to be one of the best of his generation, and United have convinced him to snub Real Madrid to join the club.
Earlier this year Rio Ferdinand was asked to pick out a defender he considered to be a star of the future, and one who reminded him of himself – he picked out Leny Yoro.
He told a Q&A on Reddit: “A young boy at Lille, Leny Yoro. He’s going to be one of the best centre backs about as well. I’ve seen similar traits. He’s going to be a top defender.”
If he is right, then United’s deal for Leny Yoro will look like a bargain.
