Manchester United investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe questioned one transfer deal struck under Erik ten Hag.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to take control of football operations at Manchester United, per conditions of his 25 per cent investment deal, The Telegraph report.

And he has already expressed his reservations at the way the Football Club has been run.

Ratcliffe famously described the signing of Fred at £47 million as ‘dumb money’, before the takeover process even began. And another deal caught his eye.

Ratcliffe unimpressed with Casemiro deal

According to The Guardian, Sir Jim Ratcliffe discussed the club’s recent transfer policy when he met club chiefs back in March, during the takeover process.

It is claimed he questioned the signing of Casemiro, in particular the £350,000 per week wages on his four-year deal.

While Casemiro made a big early impact after his £60 million move, there was a concern the deal would age badly, expressed at the time by Gary Neville.

The midfielder’s form this season has gone backwards, and there is a worry he is at the start of a decline, with United paying super-high wages to a player who soon will not be worth it.

Casemiro deal appeared a panic signing

Ratcliffe wants more structure and thought to go into Manchester United’s transfer moves. This appeared to be the case with a forward-thinking deal for Rasmus Hojlund in the summer.

But last year, Erik ten Hag’s first summer in charge, United’s process was appalling.

Months were wasted on trying to sign Frenkie de Jong, and at that point, United appeared to panic, landing a big name in Casemiro – but one in a totally different style to the Barcelona midfielder.

It asked big questions about the lack of cohesion to the club’s approach, and Ratcliffe was right to flag it up.
