Manchester United youngster Ethan Wheatley is on a scoring streak and netted twice more for the under-21s yesterday.
With most season objectives accomplished at under-18s level, Manchester United have pushed many of the top talents up to the under-21s to finish off the season.
That’s no problem for the likes of Ethan Wheatley, who has been mixing in with the under-21s throughout the season.
Wheatley proved this, scoring two goals in Manchester United’s under-21 win over Southampton, a game which finished 6-3 to the Red Devils.
Ethan Wheatley celebrates his goals, and gets a new nickname
Ethan Wheatley has already skipped under-21 level in one sense, stepping up to make his first team debut last week.
He told afterwards how Bruno Fernandes had tried to set him up for a goal, but there was not quite enough time to make it happen.
Nonetheless, it was a memorable night for Wheatley to make his debut at Old Trafford, coming just 24 hours after he had scored a brace to win the under-18s Premier League Cup final.
Wheatley sent a message out on Instagram, which read simply: “Another 2”, adding to his impressive goal tally which stands at 22 in all competitions this season.
Wheatley’s Manchester United academy teammates are used to seeing him score, it’s a welcome sight to see the centre-forward playing with such confidence.
They were quick to respond to his message, and Habeeb Ogunneye shared his new nickname for Wheatley, now referring to him as ‘250’.
He wrote: “Yes 250” in respond to Wheatley’s message, following on from his first team debut last week.
