Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage have been flying the flag for Manchester United’s youngsters on pre-season tour in Australia, with Alejandro Garnacho waiting for his chance too.

But as the under-18s showed by winning the FA Youth Cup, there is plenty more talent in the Red Devils’ academy too.

A core group of United’s academy stars have been on pre-season in Germany, playing in an under-19s tournament, taking on Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt among others.

While United did not win the tournament, they finished it in spectacular style with a 10-1 victory at the weekend, United.no report.

Ennis scores four goals

United’s spectacular win came against German side Spfr Schawbisch – a local amateur team fielding senior players. Leading the way was young winger Ethan Ennis, who scored four goals.

Ennis scored a first half hat-trick before adding a fourth to put United 8-0 up in the second half, and there was still time for more.

Teammate Omari Forson scored a hat-trick, with Isak Hansen-Aaroen, Maxi Oyedele and Charlie McNeill also among the scorers.

Ennis signed for United from Liverpool in 2021, and after a slow start to the campaign, he really found his feet in 2022. The teenager ended the season with 10 goals, nine of which came after January.

He hopes to take a leap forward this season in the same way Alejandro Garnacho kicked on in his second season at the club last year. Ennis, 17, is evidently off to a good start.

United’s youngsters are due to return to the UK, with under-21 fixtures scheduled over the next fortnight against Kidderminster on July 26 and Altrincham on July 30.

Ennis, still officially part of the under-18s, has done himself no harm at all of being involved for the under-21s in these friendlies and the season ahead.
