Whatever happens in the future for Mason Greenwood and Manchester United, his 2023/24 loan at Getafe will go down as a success.

Mason Greenwood is not expected to ever play for Manchester United again, and close to deadline day last summer, it looked doubtful whether the club would find a club willing to take him on loan.

Spanish side Getafe stepped up, and batted off the legitimate torrent of questions about the forward’s personal life, insisting they were focused on helping him get his football career back on track.

To that end, it has been a big success. Greenwood has re-established himself as a regular first team player for Getafe, and has even attracted attention from Barcelona.

Spanish press react to latest Mason Greenwood performance

Mason Greenwood is making a great impression on the pitch in Spain, while keeping a low profile off it.

Spanish newspaper AS praised his performance against Granada, writing: “The Englishman is one of those footballers for whom it is worth paying a ticket.”

The same report labelled Greenwood and top scorer Borja Mayoral as Getafe’s ‘golden duo’, praising their ‘flashes of quality’.

Marca’s report was even more glowing, writing: “Mason Greenwood is a Champions League footballer. The Briton has burst into La Liga as one of the great sensations of the championship. Virtually all of Getafe’s offensive football is born from his left foot.

“Against Granada he once again assumed command of the Azulonas’ offensive operations. Every start by Greenwood down the right side was synonymous with danger.”

Mundo Deportivo also praised the Greenwood and Mayoral duo, praising their pace on attack for creating attacking opportunities.

10th in the league, Getafe were expected to win this game against 19th placed Granada, but they did it in style.

Later this week there is a very notable clash. On Thursday night Mason Greenwood and Getafe head to the Santiago Bernabeu to take on second placed Real Madrid.
