Manchester United prospect Maxi Oyedele was among the youngsters who took their chance in the friendly win over Rangers.

Joe Hugill scored an emphatic second goal in Manchester United’s victory against Rangers, with the chance set up by Maxi Oyedele.

Oyedele beat an opponent then played a defence-splitting pass to set Hugill up one-on-one, and the young striker made the most of it.

It was the best moment of an impressive display from Oyedele, who is aiming to secure a spot on United’s pre-season tour.

Maxi Oyedele inspired by two teammates

Maxi Oyedele spoke to MUTV at full-time and in a low-key manner, he claimed to be ‘just doing my job’, when discussing his assist for Joe Hugill’s goal.

The 19-year-old also explained that he is inspired by Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho’s rise to regular first team status.

Oyedele awaits his first team debut, hoping to add to the great list of 250 graduates to go from Manchester United’s academy to the senior team.

He said: “You look at Kobbie and Garna, two lads breaking through from the academy we played with hem at Youth Cup level.

“So it’s great to see, and its motivation for us, so opportunities like this are great, and yeah, hope for more.”

In addition to his assist, Oyedele won 100 per cent of the duels he contested, all five, and also won two free-kicks. He also won three out of three tackles, while making 32 touches in 45 minutes.

Maxi Oyedele awaits verdict

Maxi Oyedele hopes for chances this coming season, and whether or not this is possible, could depend on whether he gets the nod to go on the USA tour, or not.

Manchester United took a 26-man squad to Scotland, which was without Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, Antony, and Marcus Rashford.

Then add in all of the Euro 2024 and Copa America players to return too – and it is clear that there is going to be intense competition for places.

Oyedele’s hope may be that the midfield is light on numbers. Toby Collyer looks a good bet to go after impressing, and he may be next in the queue behind him.

If he is left off the tour, then the Poland under-21 international is probably looking at trying to land another loan move – and he may have caught the eye of a few scouts with his display against Rangers.
