As predicted Manchester United were quiet on deadline day, but it was not a totally closed shop.
Manchester United were open for business for departures on transfer deadline day, attempting to maximise opportunities for academy players, with a permanent sale too.
Here is a round-up of every deal Manchester United concluded on transfer deadline day…
Isak Hansen-Aaroen to Werder Bremen: Permanent
Manchester United decided to sell Isak Hansen-Aaroen to German side Werder Bremen.
The 2022 FA Youth Cup winner joined from Tromso in 2020 and there were high hopes for him. He featured in friendly games under Erik ten Hag, but did not make the first team, nor even the bench for recent cup games.
Hansen-Aaroen’s contract was set to expire this summer, so Manchester United took the practical view to cash in for a minor fee.
But it is the later opportunity which is most attractive. Per The MEN, Manchester United are guaranteed both a sell-on fee, and the chance to match any future bid received by Werder Bremen.
Their manager has described the Norwegian as a ‘very skilful player’, excited at landing the promising midfield prospect.
Sam Mather to Rochdale: Loan
Another FA Youth Cup champion, Sam Mather’s progress had been hampered over the past 12 months due to injuries.
The winger exploded into form at the weekend, scoring four goals at Old Trafford for the under-21s in a win over Norwich City.
Mather is a dynamic winger who could make a real impact for the National League club, who are pushing to get into the promotion play-offs.
Sam Murray to Rochdale: Loan
Mather is joined by Sam Murray, the starting left-back in Manchester United’s FA Youth Cup winning side.
He began the season injured, which was a blow amid Manchester United’s dearth of left-backs, and this is a chance for him to pick up some valuable experience.
Murray and Mather are on their first loans and Rochdale are pleased to have both players aboard.
Manager Jimmy McNulty told their club media: “With where we’re at numbers-wise, the two players will be a definite help to us, as much as we’ll be a help to them.”
Tom Wooster to Macclesfield Town: Loan
Under-21s goalkeeper Tom Wooster is heading out on loan to Macclesfield Town, where he can pick up some more experience.
The former Barnsley trainee had a brief loan last season at Ramsbottom Town, where he became an instant hero by saving a penalty on his debut.
Manchester United are well covered in the position for the 21s, with Elyh Harrison and Dermot Mee. Radek Vitek is out on loan at Accrington Stanley.
Wooster will be working under Macclesfield boss Alex Bruce, son of Steve Bruce, who has recently worked as a pundit for MUTV.
Sonny Aljofree to Altrincham: Loan
Centre-back Sonny Aljofree is returning to Altrincham, where he briefly linked up with last season along with Maxi Oyedele and Joe Hugill.
Manager Phil Parkinson said: “I’m really pleased to have secured Sonny on loan until the end of the season. It was an easy decision for me to act on Manchester United’s interest to trust us with another one of their young players.
“He’s a fantastic person and a player I’m really looking forward to working with again.”
All four loanees will also be eligible to play under-21 football at Carrington as well as play for their loan clubs if not required.
