Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has brutally snubbed France as the team that he wants to win Euro 2024 in Germany this summer.

Only eight teams remain in this summer’s Euros, including tournament favourites Germany, England, France and Portugal.

The first two quarter-final matches will take place on Friday, with host nation Germany taking on Spain while Portugal face France in the last eight.

The Netherlands will clash with Turkey on Saturday, while England face a tough test against Switzerland in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024.

The semi-finals of the Euros will be played on 9th July and 10th July ahead of the final of the tournament being held in Berlin on 14th July.

Cantona names his pick for Euro 2024 winner

Eric Cantona played for France in his prolific playing career and the Manchester United legend even captained his native homeland during the 1990s.

The 58-year-old Frenchman made his debut for France in 1987 under Henri Michel and was capped 45 times for his country and scored 20 times.

Cantona represented France at Euro 1992 in Sweden, but the former United star never featured for his country at a World Cup.

The legendary former United No 7’s run with France was curtailed during the 1990s and former France boss Aime Jacquet even left Cantona out of his squad.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Cantona revealed that he wants England to win Euro 2024 this summer ahead of France.

“But I hope this year England will win the World Cup… uh, the European Championship,” he said.

“I hope so and I still, uh, support England.

“Yeah, because I love the chants. I love it when the people sing. You know I love the vibration.”

Why does Cantona support England?

Cantona has no love lost towards the France national team after his treatment as a player, having previously supported England at past tournament.

Former England striker Gary Lineker asked if it was true that Cantona had switched his allegiance away from France and supported England in competitions.

Cantona admitted that he has supported the Three Lions and the former France international insisted that he was a big admirer of England fans.

“Because I love the football in England. I love the football. I love the football,” he said.

“I love the fans. I love the [sic] everything. not only Manchester United, I love what football means, you know, in England.

“I can feel something very strong, you know, that the football is in the veins of the people, you know, and when they sing you know it’s all open you feel the vibration of everything.”
