West Ham United will not be making a move for former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard this January, according to reports.
Jesse Lingard left Manchester United in the summer of 2022 on a free transfer following a rather diabolical end to his time in Manchester following brief moments of promise at Old Trafford.
Under Jose Mourinho back in 2018, Lingard was popping up with vital goals for the Red Devils including two goals at the Emirates Stadium and a stunning curler from outside the box against Everton at Goodison Park.
However, Lingard’s loan move to West Ham United looked set to bring in funds for the Red Devils but former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer vetoed that decision and he stayed at the club.
West Ham’s stance on Lingard
Since that decision, things went downhill for the Englishman as interim boss Ralf Rangnick never saw eye-to-eye with Lingard and the midfielder left the club on a free transfer before Erik ten Hag came through the door.
Lingard moved to Nottingham Forest under Steve Cooper but he struggled hugely at the City Ground and he was once again released from the club on a free transfer.
He was spotted training with Steven Gerrard’s Ettifaq and even scoring but the Saudi side never took up the option to sign the English midfielder and he has been without a club ever since.
One club that won’t be signing the midfielder is West Ham. A report from the Daily Mail has stated that the Hammers will not be making another move for the former United ace.
Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen have been ruled out for a prolonged period of time which has left the London club in crisis but David Moyes’ team will not be making the call to Lingard, according to the report.
Lingard’s struggles
For a player who was always lauded for his hard work for the team, it has been a tough few years for the boy from Manchester.
Lingard was included in England’s 2018 World Cup squad as they reached the semi-final but has rarely been seen since and it is certainly a sad and rapid career decline for the 31-year-old.
Lingard recently had a rather public fallout with United legend Paul Scholes with the iconic midfielder having some strong words for the academy graduate.
It all adds up to being a sad time for the player who once scored a stunning winning goal for United in their FA Cup final win over Crystal Palace back in 2016.
United could have made decent money out of the Englishman and helped his career path but the Red Devils decided to keep him at the club which made his value plummet and teams eventually lost interest.
