Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has aimed another cheeky swipe at former Red Devils star Jesse Lingard after he doubled down on his previous dig.

Lingard has been a free agent since he was released by Nottingham Forest, despite attracting interest in the MLS, England, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

The 31-year-old attacking midfielder, who has been ‘offered’ to one elite European club, has even spent time in Saudi Arabia and trained with Al Ettifaq in 2023.

But it remains unclear where Lingard will head next in his career and the former United star has shared photos of him training while on the hunt for a new club.

Lingard recently posted a photo of himself during a workout in Dubai and Scholes surprisingly didn’t pass up the opportunity to launch an X-rated attack on him.

Scholes wrote in a now-deleted comment: “Are you just gonna f**k about in the gym or are you gonna play football?”

Lingard broke his silence and responded to the legendary former midfielder’s comments, but Scholes took the opportunity to aim another swipe at him.

Scholes’ latest dig on Lingard

Scholes took to his Instagram profile to promote his Oldham-based Scholes Gym while simultaneously hitting out at Lingard for the second time.

Posting on Instagram Stories, the 49-year-old United legend shared a Scholes Gym post from 2023 and referred to his initial dig on Lingard.

“If anyone would like to f**k about in a gym… I’d strongly recommend this one,” he wrote.

Considering Lingard’s initial reaction to the first dig, it wouldn’t be surprising if the former United man sees the funny side in Scholes’ comment for the second time.

What’s next for Lingard?

Lingard had trained with former side West Ham after his disappointing run with Forest came to an end, but a move for the free agent failed to materialise.

The former England international was loaned out to West Ham in 2021 and underwent a revival in form under Hammers manager David Moyes.

Despite impressing during his six-month loan spell, Lingard returned to United and struggled to carry over his blistering West Ham form to his time at Old Trafford.

West Ham have appeared to rule out a move for Lingard this month, leaving question marks around the future of the former Three Lions star in football.
