Former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard has decided to make the move to the K-League.
The English playmaker decided to pack his bags and head for Korea as his next footballing venture, with no Premier League sides seemingly keen to take another punt on the 31-year-old.
The former Red Devil had been without a club since his disastrous move to Nottingham Forest, where he played just 18 times and provided zero goals at the City Ground.
So has he hit the ground running in Asia? Not exactly – his debut didn’t go as swimmingly as he had liked.
How Jesse Lingard fared on FC Seoul debut
Lingard made his long-awaited debut for his new side coming off the bench against Gwangju on Saturday.
The moment was met with a strong reaction from the opposition supporters. A chorus of boos appeared to ring out around the stadium as thousands of fans took out their phones to capture the moment.
But this wasn’t the only time Lingard riled up the crowd. He was booked for a flying tackle, picking up a yellow card just 15 minutes after being substituted for his new side.
He was disciplined for lunging in with a late tackle by the touchline, sparking some furious reactions from the opposition.
Lingard’s side lost the game 2-0, with the attacking midfielder failing to make any impact on the scoreline after his introduction. The result leaves FC Seoul dead bottom of the K League after one game played.
His first cameo away from England did not go entirely as he expected.
The only way is up for Jesse Lingard
Lingard chose to move to the K League despite reported offers from as many as 26 clubs around the globe. The Daily Mail reports he will earn around £17.5k a week, which is a monumental drop from the £100k a week he was on at Old Trafford.
Lingard has chosen his new home, so will be hoping he has better future performances than this one. It’ll be interesting to follow his career as he looks to become Asia’s new footballing sensation.
