Borussia Dortmund and, more interestingly from a Manchester United standpoint, Jadon Sancho have lost in the Champions League final.
Serial winners Real Madrid prevailed again in the Champions League, making them remarkably 15 times winners of the esteemed competition.
From a Manchester United perspective, all eyes were on loanee Jadon Sancho. The English winger had a monumental point to prove after being shunned by Erik ten Hag from the United first-team squad, meaning a win in the final of Europe’s greatest stage would have been a huge statement.
Alas, that didn’t happen. Sancho was on the losing side in London, with a rather mediocre showing. This means a Tweet from the German outfit has seriously backfired.
Borussia Dortmund statement on Jadon Sancho backfires
Following a string of decent performances, the consensus on Sancho drastically changed regarding his abilities.
In particular, his Champions League performance against PSG was electric, which had the media raving about the £73m man once again.
Similarly, the club that acquired him made some bold claims. One in particular that rattled Manchester United fans was a post made to X, which stated the following: ‘You all owe him an apology, we were ALWAYS familiar with his game.’
After a rather mediocre cameo in the final, this now looks a little silly, doesn’t it?
Champions League final has done Jadon Sancho no favours
If circumstances remain the same, it looks destined that Sancho will leave Manchester United in the upcoming transfer window.
The fee United may obtain would have been substantially higher if he produced a European masterclass – but he did not. Sancho was merely a passenger, reminiscent of his time in red.
The Sancho hype was short-lived, and massively overstated. His future still remains a mystery, but we just can’t see it being at Old Trafford.
