Kobbie Mainoo might’ve played his way into the starting line-up for England, but now he’s been discussing the legendary Wayne Rooney.
Both Kobbie Mainoo and Cole Palmer have been highly requested by England fans during the tournament this summer with Gareth Southgate bizarrely not using them as much as they should’ve.
But going forward after impressing against Slovenia, both or at least definitely Manchester United’s 19-year-old Mainoo must be picked.
But on Thursday the pair featured in an interview for England and were asked about their first England kits ever, which led to one former Old Trafford great getting some praise from both as Palmer agreed with Mainoo.
Kobbie Mainoo delivers verdict on Wayne Rooney which Cole Palmer agrees with
Speaking on the England official X account for a ‘Diary Room’ episode, both Palmer and Mainoo were featured and ended up talking about Old Trafford legend Wayne Rooney.
First, the Chelsea wonderkid Palmer admitted his first England shirt was a white one and if there was a name on the back there was only one name it would’ve been.
“I would have had Rooney on the back”, to which Mainoo agreed that it would’ve been Rooney if he had anyone on the back of his kit.
Mainoo then added: “He’s a legend. Legend for England. United as well, so I always looked up to him growing up.”
To this, Palmer showed his true colours and the fact he was a boyhood United fan, simply adding: “What he said”, after Mainoo’s praise.
Cole Palmer should be at Manchester United
Yes, he has been at Chelsea for a year after departing Manchester City, but it seems clear that deep down, Palmer is a Red.
We know he is a boyhood fan and now praising club legends, he’s making us wish he was our right winger.
He and Mainoo clearly have tonnes of chemistry together which is also a plus and should benefit England on the pitch, so imagine if the pair had come up at United together, they’d have been unstoppable.
It’s too late for that though, however, if Chelsea continues to decline, perhaps he is a future target. But one thing is for sure, he won’t be cheap
