Wayne Rooney has admitted that one Manchester United legend was a “nightmare” and didn’t speak with two former teammates for “months” due to arguments.
The 38-year-old former Manchester United and England striker, who has been out of management since January, had a prolific career during his time at Old Trafford.
Wayne Rooney hoovered up the major silverware during his legendary spell at the Red Devils, including five Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy.
The United legend, who also lifted an FA Cup, three League Cups and a Europa League with the Red Devils, left Old Trafford in 2017 and returned to Everton.
Rooney thrived during his time under legendary former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and is widely regarded as one of the best strikers of all time.
The former United and England captain shared the pitch with a star-studded roster of talent at Old Trafford, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Nemanja Vidic and Ryan Giggs.
Following brief spells with DC United and Derby County post-Red Devils, Rooney called it time on his illustrious playing career in 2021.
Rooney talks ‘nightmare’ Man Utd legend
Wayne Rooney previously revealed that he would link up with Manchester United legends Gary Neville and Roy Keane on the panel for the Stick to Football show.
United legend Andy Cole, who was recently inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame, appeared on Stick to Football and opened up about his prolific career.
During the show, Rooney recalled his time in the Old Trafford dressing room and how fellow United legend Nemanja Vidic would be a “nightmare” to handle.
Nemanja Vidic arrived at United in the 2006 January transfer window after Sir Alex Ferguson snapped him up for a reported £7m transfer fee from Spartak Moscow.
The former United captain had a remarkable impact at Old Trafford and had one of the best defensive partnerships in the league’s history alongside Rio Ferdinand.
Rooney revealed that Vidic once had an argument with United legend Ryan Giggs and didn’t speak with the Welshman for “six months.”
The former Three Lions international added that Vidic delivered the same silent treatment to United legend Patrice Evra and didn’t speak with him for “months.”
“[Nemanja] Vidic was a nightmare,” Rooney said on The Overlap.
“He’d have an argument with someone, I remember he didn’t speak to Giggsy [Ryan Giggs] for six months, didn’t speak to Patrice [Evra] for months, he’d have an argument and just wouldn’t speak to them.
“I had an argument with him once and I remember that he was going down the same route with me, so I pulled him for a chat and said, ‘Grow up, what’s up with you? We’re teammates.’”
Evra opened up on feud with Vidic
Patrice Evra arrived in the same transfer window as Vidic after Ferguson signed him for United from French side Monaco for a reported £5.5m deal.
The ex-United left-back admitted that he had a “fight” with Vidic during their time together at Old Trafford and the pair “didn’t speak for three months.”
During an on-stage Q&A in 2021 (via Manchester United’s official website), Evra said: “To be honest, we also fought.
“We had a fight – me and him – and didn’t speak for three months. We played together and we didn’t even say a word. I never told him to go left or go right.
“He was the same. Ferguson had to swap Rio Ferdinand to play on the left side with me!
“It was like that for three months until, after a game, I remember he came to me in the dressing room and gave me a high-five.
“Everyone was like ‘finally’ because we were best friends together, Vida and me. We have a deep story together.
“I love him so much. We struggled but we were really real, me and him. If we were doing something wrong, we’d argue but, in the same way, it was a really great relationship.”
