Manchester United have had a hell of a ride in 2023.

There have been reasons to shout in 2023. Manchester United finally won silverware once again, with Erik ten Hag leading the side to Carabao Cup glory against Newcastle back in February.

But with the good must come the bad. The whole takeover process has been extremely painful, there have been numerous shocking defeats and, in general, a whole bucketload of footballing heartbreak.

So, with this, here are three of the most disappointing moments where it was seriously painful to be a Manchester United fan in 2023.

A day that many Manchester United fans have erased from their memories has to be the 7-0 drubbing Erik ten Hag faced at Anfield.

United versus Liverpool hasn’t been an enjoyable fixture for Red Devils fans as of late, particularly away from Old Trafford – but this one potentially takes the award for the worst ever.

A Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo double combined with a Roberto Firmino strike put seven past David de Gea in the most agonizing clash United have faced, probably ever in the Premier League.

A good start to the list… it can only get better – right?

After failing to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages, United were placed into the Europa League – where they remarkably beat Barcelona over two legs in the round of 16 and then sailed past Real Betis.

This led to a lot of belief the Red Devils could go on and win the whole tournament. How wrong they were.

They faced Sevilla, and thanks to two Marcel Sabitzer strikes, all was going well in the first leg. That was until two own goals in the 84th and 90th minute levelled up the tie.

This now meant United needed to turn up in Spain, but what unfolded was nothing short of an embarrassment. They were battered off the park 3-0, in a game which featured two De Gea howlers, and crashed out of yet another European competition.

The less said about this the better. This may be the worst moment of 2023, more so for the fact with hindsight to our advantage – we know what it led to.

Manchester United were defeated 2-1 at Wembley thanks to two Ilkay Gundogan strikes. City then went on to win the Champions League to win the treble and match Sir Alex Ferguson‘s greatest legacy.

Here’s to 2024… we guess?
