Manchester United squad analysis
This is a very young squad, largely impacted by international tournaments over the course of the summer.
Lisandro Martinez, Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw are still with their countries as they chase glory in finals.
Others such as Altay Bayindir, Diogo Dalot, Christian Eriksen, Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes, Facundo Pellistri and Rasmus Hojlund have been in action this summer and need some time to rest and recover.
United’s official announcement adds that Andre Onana, Victor Lindelof, Amad Diallo, Antony and Jadon Sancho are staying in Manchester to work on their fitness.
Sancho’s return to training has been big news in recent days as he and Erik ten Hag look to bury the hatchet after a fall-out last year.
Now back from a loan spell with Borussia Dortmund, Sancho is looking to save his United career this summer.
Sancho won’t be in action against Rosenborg though as he builds up fitness alongside Onana, Lindelof and Amad.
Lindelof staying at Carrington will be a point of interest though, given that reports suggest that Jose Mourinho wants to sign him at Fenerbahce.
All of these absences mean real chances for a number of exciting talents, including three Ethans – Williams, Ennis and Wheatley.
Casemiro, Marcus Rashford and Mason Mount offer some big-name presence in this squad whilst the likes of Harry Amass, Jack Fletcher and James Scanlon are involved.
