Fabrizio Romano shook Manchester United fans on Friday evening, claiming one current Old Trafford star’s agent has been meeting with clubs.

After the 2023/24 season, change has been expected at Old Trafford, with Ineos absolutely keen on making their mark and we’re already seeing the effects.

Compared to six months ago, the Manchester United footballing leadership has completely changed since Ineos’ arrival, with Jason Wilcox in place and Omar Berrada on his way.

Change is also happening on the pitch, with Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane departing the club this summer for free as their contracts come to an end.

But the change isn’t expected to stop there, and now Fabrizio Romano has shared some news which suggests the possibility of change which no fan will want to see.

What has Bruno Fernandes’ agent been doing?

Before the season concluded, Bruno Fernandes was being linked with an exit from United, as Bayern Munich were reported to have had an interest in signing him.

In what was no doubt a response to those rumours, Bruno spoke before lifting the FA Cup, as he told the Players’ Tribune: “I love to step out at Old Trafford more than anything in the world. I don’t want to leave. This has always been my ultimate dream”.

However, this has all been cast into doubt by Romano as he posted on his Instagram story on Friday with some news which has left United fans worried.

He reported that Bruno’s agent Miguel Pinho met with several top European sides this week. Continuing he added that while Bruno does remain fully focused on United, a final decision on his future is yet to be decided.

To lose Bruno would be a catastrophic start to life for Ineos given the importance of the Portuguese international who wears the captain’s armband at Old Trafford.

Manchester United would find replacing Bruno Fernandes impossible

The importance of Bruno at United simply cannot be understated. he is the facilitator of almost everything good Ten Hag’s side could conjure up last season.

15 goals and 13 assists tell the full story of how special a player he is, including that wonderful assist for Kobbie Mainoo in the FA Cup final.

Obviously, he won’t be at the club forever, but to lose him this summer would be a huge blow for whoever is manager in August.

United have been linked with some talented young number 10s such as 18-year-old Desire Doue, but if he was signed he’d be one for the future and would likely relish the chance to learn as Bruno’s number two.

We will have to wait and see over this, but we can only hope and keep everything crossed that he doesn’t actually leave this summer.
