Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo sent a clear-cut message to one England teammate after the Three Lions defeated the Netherlands at Euro 2024 on Wednesday evening.
England have reached back-to-back European Championship finals under Gareth Southgate, who fell short of the Henri Delaunay trophy at Euro 2020.
The Three Lions, who are one of the tournament favourites, will now face Spain in the final of Euro 2024 on Sunday at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
Spain, who have not lost a match at the tournament so far, produced a sensational 2-1 comeback win against France on Tuesday to reach the Euro 2024 final.
England suffered an early blow in their semi-final encounter against the Netherlands after Xavi Simons fired Ronald Koeman’s men into the lead in the seventh minute.
However, the Netherlands’ lead was short-lived after England received a controversial penalty and Harry Kane subsequently converted from the spot-kick.
England knocked the Netherlands out of the competition after Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins came off the bench and broke the deadlock in the 90th minute.
Mainoo sends message to England star
Kobbie Mainoo started the semi-final clash against the Netherlands alongside Declan Rice and the Manchester United star impressed with his performance for England.
The 19-year-old United midfielder only made his senior debut for England back in March after a remarkable breakout season at Old Trafford.
Mainoo was measured with his commanding midfield display in the Euro 2024 semi-final match and earned widespread praise for his showing in an England top.
The Three Lions international was withdrawn in injury time and replaced by Chelsea star Conor Gallagher, with Mainoo watching England’s win from the sideline.
Ollie Watkins took to Instagram after England reached the final of this summer’s Euros and posted a heartfelt message to Three Lions supporters.
“Show time baby,” he wrote.
Mainoo was spotted in the comments of Watkins’ Instagram post and the Stockport-born midfielder perfectly summed up his England teammate’s display.
“Clutch,” he simply wrote.
Mainoo reacts to England’s win vs Netherlands
Speaking after the semi-finals, Mainoo insisted that it was an “indescribable feeling” after England secured their place in the Euro 2024 final against Spain.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live (via BBC Sport), he said: “It is [an] indescribable feeling, we are all buzzing!
“It has been such a journey and we have built on old performances; the only way is up – time to put us in history.
“In the first half, it was clicking with the whole team. We felt like we had the game under control in the middle of the park.
“The second half we had to grind it out, it was tough. The whole squad was a help, the impact from Ollie [Watkins] – what a finish! The time was coming for him, I could feel it.”
