Ineos are already pushing for several arrivals this summer at Manchester United but they have one crucial job.

Wednesday saw the entirety of England in front of the television watching the Euro 2024 semi-final against England and Ollie Watkins made himself the hero.

It was a remarkable moment as for the third consecutive game, England came from behind to win the game and this time it sent them into a final against Spain.

During the game, Kobbie Mainoo was the shining light as he impressed in midfield once again, leaving everyone delighted with his outing and proud of his continued rise to greatness.

As Mainoo proves himself time and time again to be world-class. Now it’s time Ineos do the one crucial job they have this summer.

Ineos have to sign Kobbie Mainoo a top partner this summer

Manchester United struck gold with Mainoo, grabbing a player who is now worth every bit of £100m, for free. But there’s little point in having him if the club aren’t going to build around him.

So this summer Ineos must prioritise giving Mainoo a midfield partner who both plays to his strengths and adds the defensive security that Mainoo needs.

For United last season, as brilliant as Mainoo was it was clear he could be so much better if playing in a balanced midfield without the issues which were rife for Erik ten Hag’s system.

This has been showcased for England as with Declan Rice alongside him, Mainoo has shone and looks the best footballer on the pitch every game he plays.

Mainoo is ready to put United on his shoulders, so it’s up to Ineos to give him the best chance of succeeding in doing so.

Who is the ideal Kobbie Mainoo partner for Manchester United?

For Mainoo, a partner should be a more physical, defensive-minded yet technical player who is also capable of starting phases of play from the back.

Manuel Ugarte appears to be the current favourite for the role, with United in negotiations over a move. With it likely to now advance as Uruguay crashed out of Copa America.

Ugarte ticks every box and compliments Mainoo very well as he’d be happy to stay back in possession and cover potential counterattacks.

However, the absolute peak option would likely be Amadou Onana considering his strengths and the fact he is a physical anomaly in his speed, height, strength and aerial ability – which would also help Lisandro Martinez.

Onana is also very technical and an excellent passer of the ball which could make him an exciting player alongside Mainoo. Roy Keane has previously issued his endorsement for Onana.

Ultimately either of these options would be a smart move from United. But it’s just absolutely key that Ineos do make these moves, and sooner than later as well.
