Erik ten Hag‘s Manchester United beat League One side Charlton Athletic 3-0 at Old Trafford to advance to the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Antony‘s curling effort in the first half and two late goals from Marcus Rashford proved enough for the Red Devils to beat the Addicks and advance to the last four.

Here are six things we learned from tonight’s Carabao Cup tie at the Theatre of Dreams.

Six things learned as Manchester United beat Charlton Athletic 3-0

Injury scare for Diogo Dalot

United’s number 20 had to be replaced by Aaron Wan-Bissaka part way through the first half.

The former Porto youngster fell to the deck with nobody around him before having a brief chat with Ten Hag after being replaced by Wan-Bissaka.

The Portuguese right-back headed straight down the tunnel and his availability for Saturday’s derby against Manchester City is now very much up in the air.

United’s number six has been eased back into action by his former Ajax manager following his success with Argentina in Qatar.

But Ten Hag felt the clash against the Football League side represented the perfect opportunity to thrust the 24-year-old back into action from the start.

The fiery South American, who was playing alongside Harry Maguire, was at his crisp best in possession and rarely broke sweat.

Kobbie Mainoo makes senior Manchester United debut

The 17-year-old was handed his competitive bow for the senior side with Bruno Fernandes suspended and Donny van de Beek injured.

Ten Hag opted to start his first choice midfield partnership Casemiro and Christian Eriksen on the bench with the Stockport-born Mainoo starting alongside Scott McTominay and Fred.

The England Under-18 international was replaced by Casemiro on the hour mark, and the teenager will be hoping for further first team chances under the Dutchman.

Antony moves level with Anthony Martial as United’s second top scorer across all competitions

Having not scored for the twenty-time league champions since netting against Everton at Goodison Park in October, United’s number 21 has scored in back-to-back games.

The 22-year-old’s goal, which proved to be the winner, was a delightful finish which was right out of the Arjen Robben playbook.

Having already scored against Manchester City this season, the Brazilian international will be hoping to make it three goals in as many games come Saturday.

The 15-time Brazil international has moved level with Martial on five goals.

Having signed for United in October 2020 from Penarol, when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge, the speedy Uruguayan finally made his debut for the Reds.

United’s number 28 registered an assist by setting up Marcus Rashford who scored in his eighth consecutive home game.

One step closer to Wembley

United booked their place in the last-four with a third consecutive home win in the 2022-23 edition of the competition.

Newcastle United booked their place in the semi-finals with a win against Leicester City at St James’ Park.

The Busby Babes haven’t won a trophy for six years and Ten Hag will believe that the Carabao Cup represents a great opportunity for United to break their trophy duck and for him to win his first trophy in charge of the Red Devils.
