Diogo Dalot has opened up on Manchester United’s recent good form as well as the below-par first half of the season.
For Erik ten Hag and Manchester United, the season so far has been one of frustration and inconsistencies. Big results against the likes of Chelsea and Everton away will very quickly be cancelled out by a very gut-wrenching defeat.
However, there has been a bit more happiness for the Red Devils recently with back-to-back Premier League wins as well as progression to the fifth round of the FA Cup where they will face either Bristol City or Nottingham Forest.
One player who has shone in recent weeks is Diogo Dalot with the right-back firmly winning his place back in the first team after losing it towards the end of the previous campaign.
Dalot’s verdict
Well, the Portuguese defender has been speaking to DAZN, via Portuguese outlet Noticias Ao Minuto, about the club’s start to the season and the good month of January.
“The month of January could’ve been better, and the first half of the season was a little below our expectations,” Dalot admitted. “Individually, it’s been good, but the team is the most important thing, so when you don’t win, it doesn’t matter if you play well or not.
“Fortunately, the results are starting to come in and let’s hope it continues until the end of the season.
“In our case, we’re used to being at a club where the pressure and demands are very high, every time we play there are millions of people watching and so there are going to be a lot of opinions about us. Our job is to try and keep that out of it.”
Dalot’s brilliant season
After the 3-0 win over West Ham United at Old Trafford, naturally, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund got all the plaudits but Dalot certainly deserves some credit.
The Portuguese defender has arguably, alongside teenager Kobbie Mainoo, been the club’s player of the season so far and he is improving week by week.
With Luke Shaw back fit on the opposite side, United look much more cohesive as an attacking unit and could be a threat to the top four as the weeks go on.
