Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has sent a clear-cut message to Red Devils supporters after he capped off his best season to date at Old Trafford.

Diogo Dalot underwent a career resurgence under Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag and impressed since the Dutchman’s arrival at the club.

The 25-year-old United full-back climbed up the pecking order and established himself as Erik ten Hag’s first-choice right-back ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Dalot enjoyed a superb 2023-24 season at United and was a mainstay in the backline amid the injury crisis that Ten Hag faced at Old Trafford.

The United defender made a whopping 50 appearances across all competitions last season, with Dalot scoring three times and picking up five assists for the club.

Dalot’s impressive season at Old Trafford earned him the Players’ Player of the Year award, but he did miss out on the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award.

The United star is also expected to play a key part in Portugal’s Euro 2024 campaign in Germany this summer after Roberto Martinez named him in his squad.

Dalot sends message to Man Utd fans

Diogo Dalot took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday to mark the anniversary of his transfer to Manchester United.

The Portugal international first arrived at Old Trafford in 2018 after United signed him for a £19m fee from Portuguese side Porto.

Jose Mourinho was in charge at United at the time and the ‘Special One’ waxed lyrical about Dalot, who he called the “best [young] full-back in Europe” in 2018.

However, Dalot fell down the pecking order under former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and was loaned out to AC Milan for the 2020-21 season.

“Six years later. Patience, perseverance and hard work,” United wrote on X to mark Dalot’s anniversary.

Dalot reposted United’s tweet about him and shared a heartfelt message with fans, with the former Porto man ‘hoping’ there are many more years for him at the club.

“What a feeling, he wrote, adding a heart emoji before continuing: “hope many more to come!”

Dalot on Ten Hag and Man Utd

Dalot has previously praised the impact Erik ten Hag has had on his career and revealed that he was on the same wavelength as the former Ajax manager.

“We clicked straight away,” he told FourFourTwo magazine in May.

“I’ve had plenty of managers during a short career – some you get on with immediately, others you must show that you deserve to play.

“Erik and I see football the same way. I can adapt to what he wants and take different roles in different positions, which helps him when players are not available.

“He has a player who knows what he wants and I have a manager who trusts and believes in me. I’m still improving.”
