Manchester United fans are all in agreement following Diogo Dalot’s red card late on in the 0-0 draw at Anfield.
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United held on for a valiant point but it nearly all unravelled with just minutes remaining in the game.
Diogo Dalot thought he had won a throw-in late on but the linesman and the referee gave it in favour of the hosts and the Portuguese star was understandably furious.
He waved his arms in the hair on a few occasions which led to referee Michael Oliver brandishing two yellow cards in quick succession and the 24-year-old was absolutely apoplectic with the decision.
United fans react
United fans were understandably furious with the decision and some were calling for Darwin Nunez to receive a similar fate in the first half.
One fan responded at full-time and said: “Michael Oliver just gave two yellow cards within 5 seconds to Dalot for claiming that it was our throw-in. The funniest part of it all is, it was our throw-in.”
Another fan was a bit more harsh towards Oliver, who had a quiet game up until that point. “Michael Oliver realised he was in danger of not making the game about himself so had to act quickly in the 94th minute with a ridiculous red card,” he said.
A third fan said: “Michael Oliver has lost the plot. That’s disgraceful.”
Another fan was less than impressed: “I give up with these officials. Dalot shouldn’t have been sent off for that at all.”
“More grandstanding from Michael Oliver. The game is nearly done and he tries to make it about him,” a fifth said.
A sixth even predicted the poor decision before the fact by saying: “Michael Oliver will absolutely ensure we go down to 10 men at some point in the 2nd half.”
Refereeing troubles
The Red Devils have had some truly torrid decisions go against them this season and this blunder by Oliver is the latest in a long line of refereeing failures.
This was made all the more infuriating after Darwin Nunez shoved Jonny Evans in the first half, after the foul was given, he booted the ball away
Big decisions have gone against United this season, and that’s being kind. Ten Hag will no doubt be furious to lose Dalot for the next Premier League game against West Ham United, who really came into his own in the game and was brilliant.
Dalot drove forward with purpose in the second half, whilst also being defensively sound which is exactly what the United fans have been crying out for this year.
Despite the red card, Dalot was brilliant.
