Manchester United and England defender Luke Shaw did not hesitate for one moment when naming one Red Devils star as the hardest trainer at Old Trafford.
Luke Shaw is tipped to make his long-awaited return to football this summer after he was called up to England’s 26-man squad for Euro 2024 in Germany.
The 28-year-old Manchester United star missed the majority of his side’s second half of the 2023-24 season due to an injury he picked up back in February.
Shaw was withdrawn before half-time in United’s 2-1 Premier League win over Luton Town at Kenilworth Road last season, with Shaw suffering a leg injury at the time.
Gareth Southgate named the United defender in his 33-man provisional squad for England before taking the risk by adding the injured Shaw to his 26-man squad.
Shaw has been England’s main left-back choice under Gareth Southgate, who will be without a specialist left-back if the United star hasn’t recovered from injury.
The United player has since linked up with his England teammates and took part in a training session ahead of Euro 2024.
However, Shaw still remains a doubt for England ahead of their Group C opener against Serbia on Sunday at the UEFA tournament.
Shaw names hardest trainer at Man Utd
Speaking to Goal (via TikTok), Manchester United star Luke Shaw took part in a series of quick-fire Q&As ahead of England’s campaign at Euro 2024.
Shaw was asked who is the hardest trainer at United in the first-team squad and the England international named Diogo Dalot as his immediate pick.
Diogo Dalot has enjoyed a career resurgence under United manager Erik ten Hag after falling out of favour with former Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The 25-year-old United full-back, who is set to represent Portugal at Euro 2024, showed versatility by playing at both left-back and right-back last season.
Dalot also displaced Aaron Wan-Bissaka as United’s first-choice right-back and impressed under Erik ten Hag with his consistency in the 2023-24 season.
The United star’s superb season earned him the Players’ Player of the Year award at the club, but he missed out on the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year prize.
England boss Southgate on Shaw
Gareth Southgate admitted that Shaw could miss England’s Euro 2024 opener, but he is hopeful the United star will return for the Three Lions’ second clash.
“He’s progressed really well in the last couple of weeks,” he said earlier this month.
“At the moment, we think he could have some involvement in the second group game.
“But, of course, [he’s] got to keep hitting the markers. But he’s got a good body of work, operating at good speeds as well.”
Southgate added: “I think you can take one gamble, and that [taking Shaw] is a gamble that we’ve got enough evidence to believe can pay off.
“And also positionally, with what he brings with his experience, the fact he’s a left-footer who can drive forward and give us another attacking option as well, that’s a situation we wanted to explore.”
