Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has received a heartfelt message from one of his teammates after his injury setback against West Ham on Sunday.
Lisandro Martinez was forced off in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over the Hammers at Old Trafford and fans were devastated over the blow to the Red Devils star.
The United centre-back attempted to shield the ball against Vladimir Coufal and Martinez went down after the West Ham defender accidentally landed on his knee.
Martinez attempted to play on after the initial incident involving Coufal, but the 26-year-old United star was unable to continue playing after receiving initial treatment.
Erik ten Hag was forced to withdraw Martinez in the second half and replace him with Raphael Varane, with the Argentine heading down the Old Trafford tunnel.
The United manager admitted after the match that Martinez’s injury was concerning and was another major blow after the ex-Ajax star’s recent return from the sideline.

Diogo Dalot’s message to Martinez
Lisandro Martinez only returned for Manchester United last month after a lengthy spell on the sideline due to an aggravation to a previous foot injury.
The 2022 World Cup winner made his return in United’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham last month before featuring in the fourth-round FA Cup win against Newport County.
Martinez had played in United’s last three Premier League matches since his return from injury and fans had hailed his influence both against Wolves and West Ham.
The Argentina international impressed in the 4-3 away win against Wolves last week, despite United fans initially fearing a potential injury scare after he was subbed off.
Diogo Dalot took to Instagram Stories and sent a heartfelt message to Martinez after his United teammate’s setback against West Ham at Old Trafford.
“Your pain is our pain,” he wrote in English, before adding: “Volveras pronto mi hermano.”
Translating from Spanish to English, the second part of Dalot’s message said: “You will be back soon my brother.”
Ten Hag talks Martinez injury
Speaking after the match (via Manchester United’s official website), Ten Hag admitted his concerns over Martinez and how his injury “seems bad.”
“I can’t tell the detail but it seems bad,” he said.
“We have to wait for the detail and making the right diagnosis in the coming days. We’ll see what is going on.
“In this moment, we’re very sad about this but, hopefully, it’s not too bad. We can only pray.
“We have to find out in the next days what is the diagnosis. It’s very bad for him and very bad for the team.
“He’s just returning and is a very important part for us. Last season, when he fell out, I felt our performances dropped a level.
“We have to avoid that because we have a good squad and centre-backs who can fill in. But he definitely brings spirit to the team, apart from his footballing abilities.”
