Daley Blind has given his thoughts on Andre Onana’s time at Manchester United so far and believes the Cameroonian is one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
The Dutch defender, now at Girona, departed the Red Devils back in 2018 when he moved to Ajax, who were managed by Erik ten Hag.
Blind played in front of Andre Onana for a number of years before he departed for Bayern Munich but he is now in sunny Spain.
Onana has received criticism for the start he has made at Old Trafford but he has looked better recently.
Blind on Onana
Speaking to The Athletic, Blind was keen to praise the goalkeeper who looked confident and assured against Crystal Palace and pulled off a superb save against Burnley last Saturday.
“He’s one of the great goalkeepers in the world,” Blind declared when talking about the 27-year-old. “He has a nonchalance, he’s complete and when he has his head right he can be one of the best goalkeepers. He’s a winner. Always wants to train more. I had a good relationship with him.”
Onana looked shot of confidence following the defeat to Bayern Munich after he made a mistake and palmed in Leroy Sane’s shot at the Allianz Arena.
Onana’s start
The goalkeeper, as mentioned, has looked much more confident in these last two games following the catastrophic error he made in the club’s opening Champions League game.
What Onana offers United in possession cannot be understated and the goalkeeper has seemingly added confidence to a defence that looked bereft of that when David De Gea was in goal for the Red Devils last season.
Onana, at times, pushes up near the halfway line when United are dominant in possession and this means that they can sustain attacks in the opponent’s half.
The Cameroonian goalkeeper will unquestionably be a success for the Red Devils and the self-belief he has means he will be a popular figure for United this season.
