Manchester United have beaten Rangers in Edinburgh in Erik ten Hag’s side’s second friendly of pre-season.
Erik ten Hag was left frustrated by his side’s underwhelming 1-0 defeat to Rosenborg in their first outing of the summer on Monday and have bounced back impressively against Rangers.
Amad and Joe Hugill were on target with United the better team throughout on a rainy afternoon in Scotland.

[Link]Erik ten Hag will be happy with this
United have been vastly improved since the Rosenborg game. Rangers have been poor, however, it must be said.
Getting minutes in for Yoro was important and Amad looks to have carried on where he left off last season.
Five minutes to go…
[Link]10 minutes to go
United are cruising towards a win. Rangers have just substituted half their team, and United are pushing to see if they can add a third.

Joe Hugill almost bursts the net!
A dreary second half has been livened up. Maxi Oyelele splits the defence with a pass to Joe Hugill, who rifles his shot high into the net.
Jack Butland stood no chance with that, Joe Hugill will be delighted.
He has now scored two pre-seasons running, netting against Leeds 12 months ago.

Mason Mount plays a pass to Amad on the outside, who cuts in and fires a lethal low shot into the bottom corner.
[Link]Onana saves
Rangers have had a couple of attempts at goal, saved by Andre Onana, United just easing off a little.

[Link]Kick-off delayed to 4.15
The match has been delayed to a 4.15pm kick-off, to allow all fans to get into the stadium at Murrayfield.
[Link]On the Rangers team…
Look out for former Manchester United goalkeeper Jack Butland in goal for Rangers.
Butland is now Rangers number one goalkeeper.
He was just a back-up at United and didn’t play at all.
Butland did play against United in pre-season in 2022 with Crystal Palace, and suffered a broken hand…
[Link]Erik ten Hag excited to see Leny Yoro
Erik ten Hag is excited to start working with Leny Yoro, who makes his debut today.
“It’s very exciting, for him, for us. We’re so pleased to sign him. He’s a huge talent.
“We’re really looking forward to working with him and building him.”
[Link]Andre Onana makes his return
Radek Vitek is unlucky to drop to the bench after a man of the match performance against Rosenborg.
It is no surprise, however, to see Andre Onana come straight back into the starting XI now he is available.
The Cameroon international is the undisputed number one and it will be important for new defender Leny Yoro to play with him and start to build a connection.
[Link]Toby Collyer steps up
Young midfielder Toby Collyer’s promotion into the starting XI is notable for this game.
Collyer started on the bench against Rosenborg and impressed United supporters with his performance.
It seems Erik ten Hag was suitably impressed too, now calling Collyer into the starting midfield alongside Casemiro and Mason Mount.
Hannibal is the player to drop to the bench to make way for Collyer.

[Link]Back in Scotland

Manchester United have confirmed Leny Yoro will wear the squad number 15.
He follows in the footsteps of another great Manchester United centre-back, Nemanja Vidic.
Team news recap
We are two hours out from kick-off, which means line-ups should be announced in an hour’s time.
There is no Marcus Rashford for this one, he has a minor knock, while Andre Onana, Jadon Sancho and Amad are back with the squad.
The big news is new signing Leny Yoro is included.
[Link]Mount going nowhere, says Romano
He needs to impress this season, and is expected to be in line to start this afternoon against Rangers.
Jadon Sancho is back
Jadon Sancho is involved in a United squad for the first time since August 2023 today.
It’s been a long road to get here. From the fall-out in the aftermath of the Arsenal defeat to a middling loan spell at Borussia Dortmund to his eventual apology to Erik ten Hag which has seen him return to the first-team squad.
Ten Hag keeping his job seemed to be the end of Sancho at United but he now has a second chance. He will have to apply himself well over pre-season if he has a chance to rescue his flailing career.
[Link]How Manchester United could line up vs Rangers
The announcement of the travelling squad has completely changed our predicted starting XI to face Rangers.
Not only has Leny Yoro surprisingly made the trip to Edinburgh but Marcus Rashford and Antony have stayed at home while Jadon Sancho is involved.
However, Yoro still might not start the match since only being involved in one training session with his new teammates, so the defence may stay the same.
Predicted XI: Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Will Fish, Jonny Evans, Sam Murray; Casemiro, Mason Mount, Hannibal; Amad, Wheatley, Sancho.

“It remains to be seen whether De Ligt will come. I know Matthijs well and I will not deny that,” he told AD.
“I wanted to sign him two years ago but at that time he was already very far along to join Bayern Munich but believe it or not, his name did not come from me in the process.”
