Jonny Evans has signed a new deal with Manchester United to extend his stay by another season.

Last summer Jonny Evans began training with Manchester United to bolster his chances of signing with another club. He ended up being offered a deal at Old Trafford.

Now his one year deal has developed into a new contract for the 2024/25 season. It is well deserved.

Evans, 36, stepped up impressively and played more frequently than anybody expected due to an injury crisis.

He even played a part in helping Manchester United win the FA Cup Final against Manchester City.

Jonny Evans signs new deal

Jonny Evans’ contract expired at the end of June along with goalkeeper Tom Heaton. Manchester United wanted to bring both players back.

Heaton signed a new deal at the start of July. Nothing was heard regarding Evans, even though it was expected he would probably re-sign.

Earlier this morning Manchester United fans spotted Jonny Evans in a training video released by the club which was promptly deleted.

Now Manchester United have confirmed he has signed a new one-year contract to work under Erik ten Hag once again.

The announcement read: “Manchester United is delighted to confirm that Jonny Evans has signed a new one-year contract with the club, keeping him here until June 2025.”

Jonny Evans speaks out

Jonny Evans explained he was delighted to agree his new contract to stay on as a Manchester United player, and is targeting more silverware.

He said: “To play for this great club and feel the support from our incredible fans is always a privilege.

“Returning to the club last season was an honour; representing the team on the pitch alongside fantastic team-mates under an excellent manager.

“Winning the FA Cup together was an unforgettable experience; I know we can challenge for more trophies in the season ahead.”

United are expected to add more centre-backs in the transfer window, currently negotiating over Matthijs de Ligt, Jarrad Branthwaite and Leny Yoro.

While Raphael Varane has gone, Evans provides extra depth, and suggests one or two others may yet be moved on.
