Marseille announce Greenwood move
Marseille announced the move on their website, noting how Mason Greenwood broke through at Manchester United with his ‘precocious talent, his speed and great dribbling’.
Greenwood was regarded as one of the most exciting young players to come through United’s academy, before he was arrested in January 2022.
Charges against him were later withdrawn, but Greenwood never played for Manchester United again.
Earlier this month Greenwood attended a meeting at Carrington, where he was told by Dan Ashworth that he had no future at the club.
A move to Marseille was swiftly agreed, where United will receive a £23 million fee rising to £26 million, with a sell-on clause of 50 per cent.
Greenwood’s sale frees up more funds for United as it is the sale of a homegrown player.
