Christian Eriksen says he is ready to step up for Manchester United with star man Bruno Fernandes suspended.

Bruno Fernandes will miss tonight’s fixture with Sevilla due to suspension, after picking up his third yellow card of the competition in the first leg.

Fortunately Manchester United have Christian Eriksen back, who produced a starring performance at the weekend alongside Fernandes.

Now with Fernandes ineligible tonight, there will be extra responsibility to Eriksen to produce a similar display and help United win the tie.

Eriksen vows to step up

Eriksen returned earlier this month after an injury kept him out the entirety of February and March.

The Denmark international spoke to the media ahead of the tie and has pledged to step up with Fernandes out.

He said he appreciates the way the United team delivered while he was out, and feels a sense of debt that he should also deliver in the same circumstances.

Eriksen told club media: “We’re missing Bruno tomorrow but when I was away, someone had to pick my duties up and it will be the same tomorrow. Someone will have to pick up the gap that he’s leaving behind.”

In reference to his current fitness levels, Eriksen offered a positive outlook, commenting on the club’s medical staff: “they’ve kept me in good shape and now it’s like I never left.”

Eriksen has nine assists for the season, with Fernandes on 14, but the Dane actually led the way prior to his injury in late January.

He went on to praise new signing Marcel Sabitzer as ‘unbelievable’. Signed as Eriksen’s cover, the pair could get a chance to feature together tonight.

The tie is poised at 2-2 after Sevilla fought back in the first leg following two early Sabitzer goals. United have won twice and drawn once in three games in Spain this season.
