Manchester United have been hit by a substantial blow this week with Luke Shaw’s season possibly over, and fans are fuming.

After a concerning end to his afternoon on Sunday at Kenilworth Road during Manchester United’s 2-1 win, the extent of Luke Shaw‘s injury is now known.

The decade-long serving Manchester United ace is now believed to be out for the rest of this season which is a substantial blow to Erik ten Hag.

This injury is made even bigger a blow by the fact that Shaw being out leaves the Old Trafford outfit without a senior left-back.

Tyrell Malacia is still injured as he has been since July and then Alvaro Fernandez was sent on loan to Benfica, along with Sergio Reguilon‘s loan being terminated – which was a club decision.

So with Shaw’s injury, we’re left remarkably short at left-back and this is something which has angered fans, as the club should’ve seen it coming.

Manchester United fans react to Luke Shaw injury

Fans took to X after learning of Shaw’s injury, with most absolutely fuming about the situation, pointing the finger firmly at the club.

One wrote: “Looks like Luke Shaw is out for the rest of the season, letting Reguilon go was a bit silly, especially knowing Shaw’s injury record.”

Another mentioned that Fernandez could have been a perfect player to keep amid his verdict: “Rushed back because we gifted our very capable backup to Benfica for pennies & cut our loan signing short. Genius squad planning yet again.”

A third was also in disbelief: “I generally don’t understand why we let Alvaro and Reguilon leave in January when we knew Malacia was out all season and Shaw is injury-prone.”

One pointed out that this issue of a lack of left-backs has lasted pretty much this entire season now: “Why did United send Sergio Reguilon back??? Basically no starting left-back or cover left-back for an entire season. Needs addressing.”

Finally, one fan even suggested that it may be time to sell the injury-prone defender: “Luke Shaw’s a great player but he’s been here for a decade and is still injury-prone. It might be time to move on”

Has time run out for Luke Shaw?

With such an injury-plagued season, the 28-year-old’s future at the club looks bleak, especially with Sir Jim Ratcliffe unlikely to allow players to remain at the club if they have no future.

Turning 29 in four months, Shaw’s injury worries are only going to get worse and so left-back could now also need strengthening this summer, with Harry Amass too young just now.

Shaw is incredible when he’s fit and in his best form, probably one of the world’s best, however, those days are beginning to come few and far between.
