Manchester United’s players were not in the mood to be light-hearted after defeat in Sevilla.
A defeat in Seville gave Manchester United’s players absolutely nothing to smile about. Casemiro was not in the mood for idle chatter after the loss.
United were beaten 3-0 by Sevilla, losing 5-2 on aggregate. It was the club’s third elimination to Sevilla in the past six years.
The La Liga side are now into the Europa League semi-finals where they will take on Juventus.
Casemiro slaps down Sevilla
Casemiro was among United’s starters in Seville and he was not happy with the disappointing way the night went.
After the game he had a brief interaction with the Spanish press when he was asked about Sevilla’s ongoing Europa League success.
He was asked if Sevilla are to the Europa League, what his former side Real Madrid are to the Champions League.
Casemiro bluntly responded, via Mundo Deportivo: “Well, I still think they have seven more to go, right.”
This was in reference to Real Madrid’s 14 Champions League trophies, of which Casemiro helped win five.
In fact, Casemiro did Sevilla a favour with his comment. They have won the Europa League six times, and are bidding to win a seventh this season.
Casemiro was clearly frustrated not to have helped Manchester United towards another trophy. He has one in the bank at Old Trafford already.
This weekend he returns to Wembley as United take on Brighton in the FA Cup semi-final.
