Manchester United were comfortable victors in the end thanks to an absolutely stupendous overhead kick from Alejandro Garnacho, a penalty from Marcus Rashford and an ice-cool Anthony Martial finish to record a 3-0 win over Everton.

The first goal, which arrived after just two minutes of play at Goodison Park, was brilliant in every way. The stadium seemed to fall silent once the ball hit the back of the net, it was an unbelievable moment.

It wasn’t pretty at times from Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United but they got the job done in the end thanks, in part, to the stunning goal from the Argentine.

Here are five things we learned from the comfortable victory at Goodison Park.

Garnacho’s wonder goal

The Premier League’s Goal Of The Season contest may well have been decided by the Argentine who, in a style similar to Wayne Rooney’s overhead kick in the Manchester derby back in 2011, scored an outrageous winner in a crucial match.

Speaking on Sky Sports commentary, former United right-back Gary Neville believed it may have been the best overhead kick he has ever seen live.

Alejandro Garnacho, himself, looked surprised by the goal but it was a truly glorious moment that will be replayed for years to come, similar to Rooney’s against one of United’s greatest rivals.

Mainoo shines

Perhaps there was little surprise to the majority of the United fanbase as Kobbie Mainoo was truly sensational in what was his first Premier League start for the Red Devils.

The composure he possessed, as well as the defensive awareness he had, really made him stand out amongst the rest of the midfielders in the United team.

It was a crucial goal-line clearance from the teenager that really showed his impressive awareness in the heart of the midfield.

Mainoo has his place in the team and he simply has to stay there if he carries on with the level of performance that he showed at Goodison Park.

Lindelof impresses again

The Swedish defender was brought into the team against Luton Town over Raphael Varane and was the match winner, he kept his place at Goodison Park and was solid again.

Victor Lindelof, alongside Harry Maguire, was once again impressive. Playing as the left-sided centre-back, the former SL Benfica defender looked comfortable against Dominic-Calvert Lewin.

The defender won 75% of his aerial duels, 100% of his ground duels and completed 78% of his passes. He was solid for the Red Devils which may mean Varane will have to sit out of the team for longer.

Rashford ends goalscoring drought

It was a superbly emphatic penalty from Marcus Rashford to wrap up the points for the Red Devils. There was a moment of confusion when Bruno Fernandes handed the ball to the Englishman but the winger converted brilliantly.

The penalty was Rashford’s first goal since September 3rd against Arsenal in the 3-2 defeat at the Emirates Stadium for the Red Devils.

Ten Hag will be hoping that the Englishman can rediscover his form in front of goal from last season.

Martial’s brilliant start

The future certainly looks bleak for Anthony Martial but if the Frenchman, in place of the injured Rasmus Hojlund, continues to perform like he did at Goodison Park, he may have a future at the club.

It was a beautifully dinked finish against Jordan Pickford which meant that was Martial’s ninth goal in 16 games against the Toffees.

His hold-up play has always been superb and it was yet another performance that helped the Red Devils in what looked to be a tough test of their credentials this season.

The win over Everton takes the Red Devils to within just four points of the top four in the Premier League.
