David Beckham has singled out two Manchester United stars with praise after the Red Devils’ sensational FA Cup final win over Manchester City at Wembley.
The Red Devils punched their ticket to the FA Cup final after beating Coventry City on penalties in the semi-finals at Wembley last month.
Manchester United were seen as the massive underdogs going into the FA Cup final on Saturday after a lacklustre Premier League campaign.
However, Erik ten Hag’s men defied the odds and produced a stunning performance against Premier League champions Manchester City.
Alejandro Garnacho slotted the ball into the empty City net in the first half after Josko Gvardiol and Stefan Ortega were at fault for a reckless mistake.
Following Alejandro Garnacho’s opener, Kobbie Mainoo doubled United’s advantage only nine minutes later thanks to a sublime assist from Bruno Fernandes.
Jeremy Doku scored late in the second half for City, but Pep Guardiola’s men succumbed to a 2-1 defeat in the FA Cup final on Saturday.
United manager Erik ten Hag has captured his second trophy in his second consecutive season at Old Trafford since his arrival from Ajax in 2022.
The Dutchman fell short of the FA Cup trophy in his debut season at the Premier League club after City beat United 2-1 in the final in 2023.
Beckham praises two Man Utd stars
Following the FA Cup win, David Beckham wasted no time in showing his admiration for two Manchester United players on his social media account.
The 49-year-old United legend was one of the famed ‘Class of ‘92’ members who made a name for himself at Old Trafford under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Beckham took to Instagram Stories and praised both Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo for their respective performances in the FA Cup final.
The former England captain posted one photo featuring Mainoo and sent a clear-cut message about what the FA Cup victory meant for United fans.
“Manchester is Red [sic],” Beckham wrote.
Another post from Beckham paid tribute to both Garnacho and Mainoo, who both came through the United youth academy.
The Inter Miami president and co-owner was in awe at what the two teenagers achieved in the FA Cup final and what it meant to the club’s youth academy.
“Straight from our academy. This is what it means,” Beckham wrote.
Ten Hag talks up Man Utd star Mainoo
Speaking after the FA Cup final, Erik ten Hag praised Mainoo for his breakout season and how he produced a show-stealing performance against City.
“It was really incredible to watch Kobbie at his age,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.
“We wanted to bring him [through] and in the second game of the season he got an injury. It then took him so long to get back to fitness.
“I think we have to keep it calm because here in England we do so much in pushing young players high and then hammer them when they have one or two bad performances.”
