Manchester United are looking to snap up one Uruguayan talent this summer but may actually end up losing another.

July is here and the international tournaments are coming to an end, so that means one thing – the summer transfer window is about to explode.

Copa America and Euro 2024 will be over in a matter of days and that should help some deals accelerate.

Manchester United are in that exact position with a handful of targets currently away with their countries.

Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee are still with the Netherlands whilst Manuel Ugarte has a potentially huge week ahead.

The Uruguay midfielder will be in Copa America semi-final action against Colombia and Thursday with a spot in the final against Argentina up for grabs.

Facundo Pellistri makes decision Manchester United future

Reports suggest that United are pushing to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Ugarte and a deal may well accelerate once his Copa America commitments end.

Ugarte enjoyed a major win over the weekend as Uruguay knocked Brazil out on penalties with the midfielder scoring the crucial winning spot kick.

Ugarte was congratulated by teammate and United winger Facundo Pellistri, but the prospect of a Uruguayan reunion at Old Trafford is dwindling.

United may well be able to sign Ugarte but Pellistri seemingly doesn’t plan to stick around.

Sky Sports report that Pellistri is now seeking a move away from Old Trafford and is open to leaving either on loan or permanently.

Pellistri is now 22 but has only managed 24 first-team appearances for United.

Loans to Alaves and Granada haven’t exactly pushed Pellistri into first-team reckoning at Old Trafford and the time may have come for a departure – despite the chance to join forces with Ugarte at club level.

Major interest in Pellistri

Ugarte may be somewhat disappointed to hear that an international teammate wants to move on but Pellistri needs to think about his own development.

Pellistri can’t afford to stall at United and he isn’t exactly short of interest elsewhere.

Agent Edgardo Lasalvia claims that Real Valladolid and Panthinaikos are both keen on Pellistri this summer.

Valladolid boss Paolo Pazzolano – a Uruguayan himself – has admitted that he would love to sign Pellistri.

Brazilian sides Corinthians and Flamengo are interested in Pellistri too, whilst Boca Juniors are understood to be keen on luring him to Argentina alongside Edinson Cavani.

United seemingly don’t have plans to turn Pellistri into a first-team star and a sale may be ideal, allowing the winger to kick on elsewhere and add some money into the United budget.

Dan Ashworth and co may need to be ruthless this summer, especially with United wanting so many new additions.

Cash must be raised from somewhere and whilst Pellistri won’t bring in a huge fee – he only cost United £9million – it may be a case of ‘every little helps’ in this transfer window.
